Ja, wo laufen sie denn? Das haben wir uns tatsächlich gefragt, nachdem wir frisch vom Kamelrennen in al-Wathba in Al-Ain eintrafen. Alle touristischen Sehenswürdigkeiten sind bestens ausgeschildert bis auf eine: der am Freitag vormittag stattfindende Kamelmarkt. Kurz vor der Aufgabe wurden wir doch noch fündig.

Zwar war das Spektakel bereits zum größten Teil vorbei und man war bereits beim Abbau, aber eilfertige pakistanische Pfleger mit der Hoffnung auf Bakshish zeigten uns dennoch das ein oder andere – manchmal neugeborene oder auch ein paar Tage alte – Kamel. Ob zur Zucht oder zum Schlachten: auf dem Markt gibt es alles.

Where the deuce did they hide them? We almost went mad trying to find the one and only camel market in the UAE arriving from the Camel race at al-Wathba in Al-Ain. Every imaginable tourist sight was exemplary signposted but the friday camel markt! Just before giving up we managed to find the place.

Indeed the spectacle was almost over and the dismantling had already started, however hasty caretaker from Pakistan hoping for Bakshish showed us all the same some animals – sometimes newborns or just some days old. Whether for breeding or for slaughter: the market has it all.
