The premium hiking trail “Schluchtensteig” in the South Black Forest winds over 119 kilometers from the town of Stühlingen to Wehr. The long-distance trail can be completed in six stages, each around 20 kilometers long and offering quite a few elevation changes. Along the way, there’s plenty to see: besides the Wutach Gorge and Lake Schluchsee, there are places like St. Blasien with its cathedral or Todtmoos in the Wehratal. The flower meadows, especially on the fifth stage from St. Blasien to Todtmoos, are beautiful and captivate the eye. Waterfalls, lakes, and pasture fields add to the diverse scenery.
Right at the starting point in Stühlingen, we make an unexpected discovery with the “Schuergarten” in Stühlingen and an accompanying exhibition called “Lasst Blumen sprechen” (“Let Flowers Speak”).
On each stage, we experience many lovely moments: whether it’s the Wutach Gorge on the first stage, the numerous bridges on the second, a stop in Lenzkirch for coffee and cake on the third, the impressive cathedral in St. Blasien on the fourth, the wonderful flower carpets on the fifth, or the Wehratal Gorge on the sixth and final stage.
On the way back from Wehr to Stühlingen by public transport, we make an unplanned stop in Waldshut-Tiengen. It’s definitely worth taking a look at the picturesque city center.
