Through the moor to the Love bench: Hiking inside Hochsolling

Christina/ April 10, 2022/ The daily grind

Almost on the doorstep we find a hiking path like no other: The round course through the Hochsolling (HS1). Next to the boardwalk through the high moor Mecklenbruch we get to know the moor ghost of Hochsolling. We stop for a bite to eat at the Hotel Christina at Neuhaus and make acquaintance with the Ahle source. We streak the visitor centre of the wildlife park house and come across the laager Solling. Here it is said one can experience a night like no other. Finally we climb the Hochsolling tower and reach the „Liebesbankweg“ close to Silberborn. My conclusion: The round course through the Hochsolling is varied and full of surprises.

Just follow your nose
Our starting point of this 20 km round course is the parking lot at the local community house in the centre of Silberborn. We follow the Dasseler Straße towards the city limits and stop at an colossal nose. It is the Hochsolling Nase, a symbol for the city of smell and flavour. The city is Holzminden, close to Silberborn.

Close to the city limits of Silberborn we turn left into the forest. We follow the sign high moor Mecklenbruch and the sign posts of the hiking path HS 1. A boardwalk leds us to the high moor. I take a deep breath when I see how high the moor just to be and how it has been destroyed by men. It’s good that the nature reserve is recultivated by now. It’s the home of butterflies, frogs, dragonfliees and forest lizards – I hope it will remain like this.

At Christina’s
We reach Neuhaus and are thinking about a short break with a cold one. The village itself seems to be abondened around noon. But stop. We suddenly discover the sign of a namesake and conquer the terrace. Even though outside is the best spring weather ever, pensioners populate the rooms inside. Maybe this is more descreet? We bolster ourselves and move on.

On the highest point of the Solling
We are yearning for the next highlight: the highest point of the Solling, the Hochsolling tower. We pass by an historic dry stone wall and reach the laager Solling. The place offers accommodation either in a site caravan or in a barrel. A nice idea. Further up we meet a men with his dog, who gives us direction to the tower. We climb up the 33 meter high wooden tower and enjoy the all around view over the Weser hills.

On the Liebesbankweg
We take a deep breath and start our return path. We are almost back at Silberbon when a sign strikes me. It says „Liebesbankweg“. Hey, that is supposed to be in the Harz mountains above Hahnenklee. Is that a pirate copy? But the Silberborn version is shortened to the one close to Goslar by far. But, who cares? Today we walk on the path of love back to Silberborn. On our way back home we just thing: What a nice place this Hochsolling is.
