Bei einem Besuch des Botanischen Gartens in Madrid bin ich zufällig auf eine sehr interessante Ausstellung bzw. einen sehr interessanten Preis aufmerksam geworden: den schweizerischen Prix Pictet.
Laut der Beschreibung des Preises auf der Internetseite der Stiftung „it has a unique mandate – to use the power of photography to communicate vital messages to a global audience. The goal is to uncover art of the highest order, applied to confront the pressing social and environmental challenges of the new millennium“.
Die Gewinnerfotos sind tatsächlich sehr kontrovers bezüglich des „1.Welt-3.Welt“-Gefälles. Zynisch könnte man sagen: „Whereas people are still dying on the one side of the globe, on the other side the living on after death is guaranteed deep-freezing“.
The pictures left a big impression on me.
Upon a visit to the Botanical Garden of Madrid I came across a very interesting exhibition resp. prize by chance: the Swiss made Prix Pictet.
According to the foundation’s website, the prize „has a unique mandate – to use the power of photography to communicate vital messages to a global audience. The goal is to uncover art of the highest order, applied to confront the pressing social and environmental challenges of the new millennium“.
The award winning photos are indeed very controversial in regard to the „1st Welt-3rd Welt“-Gap. Cynically one could say: „Während auf der einen Hälfte des Globus noch gestorben wird, wird auf der anderen Hälfte bereits das Weiterleben durch einfrieren gewährleistet“.
Bei mir haben die Bilder einen großen Eindruck hinterlassen.
