Hell yes, the Drecksclub is back\u2014and this time it\u2019s stopping by for two days at Circus Dobbelino on Schefflerstra\u00dfe in Braunschweig. And yes, both the characters and the format itself have become cult classics by now\u2014and they have been for twelve years! At least I don\u2019t know a single person who\u2019s visited the \u201cMoor\u201d for the first time and didn\u2019t love it. Which makes sense, really, since I usually start hyping my favorite character weeks in advance: the drumming meerkat.<\/p>\n
In these gloomy times, so often shaped by bad news, there\u2019s nothing better, in my opinion, than being cheered up by Wilma the Steamroller, the cockroach, Barfly, or the depressed doe. And of course there\u2019s a certain wordplay to the fact that I let myself be entertained\u2014of all things\u2014by a depressed cloven-hoofed animal \ud83d\ude42 Oh well, I take my fun wherever I can get it. Jokes aside: with the title \u201cMother of All Misunderstandings,\u201d the Drecksclub once again delivers a top-notch show that gets you swaying and singing along. For more than 2.5 hours, the 15 protagonists on stage give it absolutely everything. As a special highlight, the troupe unleashes an Elton John double on the ecstatic audience. Now that is what I call a coup of a very special kind.<\/p>\n
A cousin straight out of a nightmare<\/strong> Another fun fact: the depressed doe believes she has received a love letter from the chameleon and now wants to confess her love in return. Oh\u2014and the cockroach is secretly collecting Morja\u2019s hair\u2026 So once again, great entertainment, quirky dialogue, and excellent music are guaranteed.<\/p>\n I\u2019m still standing<\/strong> Final verdict: once again, we experienced an incredibly brilliant, highly entertaining, and delightfully quirky evening with the Drecksclub. We\u2019ll happily be back again next year.<\/p>\n
\nWhat\u2019s the story behind it all? Well, honestly, that\u2019s not really the point. Still: Odius the Toad, host of the Drecksclub, is officially off on a toad migration and therefore not around. A rumor spreads that Odius is dead\u2014later, a suitcase containing the beheaded Odius turns up. According to Moor law, however, the pub wouldn\u2019t go to his wife, Wilma the Steamroller, or to his daughter Morja. No, the heir has to be male. Enter a previously unknown, slimy cousin who suddenly appears and wants to wrest the Drecksclub away from the gang.<\/p>\n
\nWhen an Elton John double finally takes the stage just before the intermission and belts out \u201cI\u2019m Still Standing,\u201d the place goes absolutely wild. Not much later\u2014by the end of the show\u2014no one is able to stay seated during the legendary \u201cCrocodile Rock.\u201d<\/p>\n
