\nBarely ten minutes into the hike, our legs were already burning. The ascent from Nienstedt up to the ridge path (Kammweg) is steep, sweaty, and a real fitness check. But as soon as we reached the top, the effort was forgotten: sunbeams filtering through the autumn leaves, the earthy scent of moss and mushrooms in the air \u2013 pure nature\u2019s cinema.<\/p>\n
\nOur first destination was the Annaturm, standing tall like a guardian of the Deister. Climbing its narrow spiral staircase was a workout in itself, but at the top, we were rewarded with sweeping views over the Calenberger Land, across fields, forests, and villages. At our feet lay the bustling beer garden of the Annaturm inn \u2013 laughter, clinking glasses, and cheerful chatter drifted up, a lively contrast to the quiet expanse beyond.<\/p>\n
\nBack on the ridge path, we followed the signs to the Wasserr\u00e4der and the Wennigser Mark. Honestly, we had expected something historical \u2013 instead, it turned out to be more of a playful water installation for children. A nice stop for families, but for us, just a short detour. We had hoped to continue on to Wennigsen Abbey, but daylight was slipping away, so we saved that goal for another hike.<\/p>\n
\nTurning back didn\u2019t mean it got any easier. Taking a side path parallel to the Kammweg, we eventually reached the Alte Kammweg, and from there it was time to dig deep: 150 meters of elevation gain in just 1.5 kilometers. The path was steep and winding, our hearts pounding \u2013 but finally, we made it to the Nordmannsturm. The reward? A refreshing pause with blackcurrant wine and a cold beer, enjoyed with sweeping views of the autumn landscape.<\/p>\n
\nRefueled, we tackled the descent. The trail down was stunning, winding steeply through dense greenery \u2013 but not a route you\u2019d want to do at dusk, as footing can be tricky. At the edge of the forest, we found a bench and sank into the last golden rays of sunshine before strolling back to Nienstedt.<\/p>\n\n
