Usedom is the second biggest island of Germany. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Travellers can reach Usedom by car, train, by bike and also by foot. When I think of Usedom the prominent piers come into my mind. I also think of the magnificent buildings of the former centuries which decorate the so called emperor baths of Bansin, Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck. Usedom can be easily discovered by bike, whether power it one’s own muscular strength or by electrical support. One thing is for sure that the island has beautiful bike tours. But be careful: Who thinks that the island is flat will be surprised.<\/p>\n
Our blue miracle<\/strong> Having arrived on Usedom we cycle towards M\u00f6lschow and then turn to Karlshagen and turn left to Peenem\u00fcnde. From here we want to cycle alongside the coast to the sea bath of Ahlbeck. <\/p>\n With tailwind alongside the coast<\/strong> This place is comparatively quite and the terrace of the restaurant Domizil looks tempting to us. We sit down in a beach chair and order drinks and french fries. Meanwhile it is really warm and we enjoy the sun beams on our face. Afterwards we spoil ourselves with some ice cream. Back on our cycles we drive through Trassenheide to Zinnowitz where we come across our first pier and marvel at the apartment hotel Seeschl\u00f6sschen, which was built in 1897.<\/p>\n Our first pier<\/strong> The emperor’s baths of Usedom<\/strong> After the dinner we spent some time on the pier of Ahlbeck. There is also a restaurant on the pier. Maybe this would have been a better place. But when we realise how many tourists are roaming around the tables we are happy that we have chosen another place. <\/p>\n On our way to the train station of Heringsdorf we pass by some really nice villas of the 19th century. There is not doubt about it the houses of that time are really spectacular and look extraordinary with the evening sun on its faces. <\/p>\n
\nWe park our car at Wolgast on the doorstep of Usedom. Here we get our \u201eblue miracle\u201c. That is the blue flap bridge which leads over the Peene to the island. The crossover is the most prominent building of the city. The bridge was inaugurated in 1996.<\/p>\n
\nAt Peenem\u00fcnde we take a good look around the harbour. We see discharged submarines, the historical-technical museum and the Ph\u00e4nomenta. However the weather today is too good to spend time inside. Therefore we move on to Karlshagen and cycle through the forest until we reach Trassenheide.<\/p>\n
\nAt Koserow we step onto our first pier \u2013 or at least we try. It is quite packed on this 300 metres long building. From here we move on to \u00dcckeritz. This is where the hardest part of the way starts. It really gets up and down with a rise of over 16 %! I really did not expect something like this. Ooh, this is really stressful now. Having arrived at \u00dcckeritz we are looking for a place to recharge our batteries. We sit down at the beach caf\u00e9 Utkiek and enjoy the view over the beach and the sea. <\/p>\n
\nThe path from Koserow to Bansin also quite stressful. The emperor’s baths of Bansin, Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck are very close to each other. Theses places are packed \u2013 really packed. Fortunately Ahlbeck is a little bit more quite. We decide that this is the right place for supper. Maybe this is not the best restaurant on the island but it’s quite. <\/p>\n
