Stamp fever – over and over again

Christina/ March 12, 2022/ The daily grind

I thought I closed this chapter, the collection of stamps. But then I came across the „Nördliches Harzvorland“ and everything started afresh. This time the track leads to Kissenbrück, more precisel to the manor of Hedwigsburg. Later on we walk into the Asse, where the ruins of the fortress are luring with stamp number two.

Discoveries at the palace garden
The tour starts at Kissenbrück, right at the first stemp post of the day, the manor Hedwigsburg. The track leads us across the impressive compound of the manor and afterwards across the palace garden with its sculptures. A beauty patch. From the manor we walk to the city limits, passing bye grammar school and into direction of Asse. At first we reach the hill Ösel and traverse it. From the top of the 156 metre hight we enjoy a wonderful view onto the surrounding small towns, such as Neindorf and Groß Denkte.

Donkey tracking on the Ösel
From a far we see a donkey caravan, which makes it way through the hills. We observe the group for a while and finally catch up with it. The ground is quite muddy and I have not guessed that these hoofed animals have problems to walk onto this soft soil. But indeed it’s legs are slipping away and the animals are having a hard time to walk through the muck.

Eggs are healty and tonically
The track leads us through Klein and Groß Denkte. Close to the Asse we pass by a farm automat with fresh eggs, selfmade sausages and soup. „Eggs are healty and tonically“ a sign tells us. Good old Wilhelm Busch seems to be the originator of this clever saying. We smile and finally reach the Asse. We climb up to the next stamp which is close to the ruins of a former fortress. Having reached the top we allow ourselves for a lunch break in the sun. However the winds are quite chilly this day, therefore our stay is rather short.

Via the „Liebesallee“ we walk to Wittmar and from there along the street back to Kissenbrück. We are happy about our yield of two new stamps and are looking back onto a nice hike through the Braunschweiger Land.
