My Chanel Hat

Christina/ October 20, 2024/ The daily grind

October is being so kind to us this year that I often feel drawn outside. Again and again, I’m fascinated by what there is to discover in nature. Right in the Western Ring area, directly by the Ringgleis, stands my Chanel hat! In all its glory, it stands upright on the green grass, surrounded by colorful leaves. I’m so delighted that I have to take pictures of it from every angle. This perfection, this shape, and then the colors black and white! Maybe I’m simply inspired by a documentary about Coco Chanel that I recently watched on Arte. But it doesn’t really matter. I’m here with my Chanel hat, and I can enjoy it all by myself!

Feathers Must Fall
An event at the Kontorhaus by the Jödebrunnen pulls me away from the sofa this afternoon. Even though it’s rather cloudy and a bit gloomy today, I set off. On the way, I come across an interesting spectacle on the Ringgleis. I’m not involved in the action itself, but it seems like two birds must have had a tussle. It looks messy. Feathers are scattered all around. Was it about food or maybe a mate? Who knows. In any case, I discover some beautiful motifs.

Never Go the Same Way Twice
Under the motto “Never go the same way twice,” Sunny Pudert and Esra von Kornatzki have organized an afternoon at the Kontorhaus. There are supposed to be pictures on display and a double bass concert. I once got to know the building and the Jödebrunnen as part of a neighborhood tour. Back then, when I was new to the Western Ring area, I joined the local historian. In the meantime, the historic building has been spruced up. At that time, it was still closed. When I arrive, the festival is already in full swing. Mulled wine, coffee, soft drinks, and speculoos are on offer. A few pictures are hanging on the wall in the Kontorhaus. The musician, Daphne, is getting ready for her performance. It’s set to start in 10 minutes. I take a seat outside and take a moment to gather my thoughts. Then, with the introduction of the double bass, it becomes festive. After three pieces, though, it’s already over, and I decide to move on a bit further.

My Chanel Hat
Following the Kontorhausweg, I reach Büchnerstraße. An old advertising sign for Halloren balls catches my eye. Then I arrive at the Ringgleis. I choose the pedestrian path, and there it is: the beautiful mushroom that looks like a hat from Coco Chanel. The cap of the fungus clearly resembles a headpiece and glistens in black and white. Crazy. Here by the roadside, completely unnoticed by most passersby, this magnificent specimen stands waiting to be discovered! What luck. I’m utterly thrilled. Along with my recent fly agaric session in Ilsenburg, this is yet another special moment. I take plenty of photos of the model. In my mind, the first line for my blog post is already forming. Uplifted by my find, I continue walking after a while. Later, the bright colors of the autumn leaves captivate me before it starts to drizzle. But that doesn’t bother me at all. I now have my Chanel hat!
